All my mounting holes are gone. I am using a different outboard than original. Has anybody got a good process for setting center, height, and plumb of an outboard? Are there factory reference marks on outboards for rigging purposes?

I like to make a shirt cardboard template of the outboard bracket....... ever make a gasket with a hammer and gasket material ??? It gives you something to work with.

Hey drewpster, I know you want to get it exact, but I've found they are not always perfect from the dealer.

The keel will be the vertical center of the transom. Measure across the top of the transom, half that will be center there, then run a plumb line from there to the keel to mark your vertical center.

Use a level to drill your through bolt holes perpendicular to the transom. Use your tongue jack and level to make your transom vertical.

Good luck.

When you get the tape out you may find that nothing is centered, straight, symmetrical, true, level, etc, it may scare you. Don't worry though, its very common on older designs.

Just line everything up as well as you can. I normally hang the motor on it before drilling, then I can get a good look at exactly where its going to be.
