I have a 1988 20hp that I am going to rig for a tiller. It is an electric start remote model. I was looking at BRP's site and saw the setup for a tiller starter. My question is, since I didn't see where you could get the whole setup in kit form (ala-cart) could I rig up a pushbutton starter for it? What would it Entail? Thanks.

A push button switch and two wires. But you also need to stop it so you also need a stop button. And how about the kill switch -- going to use one? And how about the neutral start switch? Without one I guarantee you are going to dump someone (or yourself) overboard. A trip to the library or investment in a service manual for your engine is suggested. The schematics will be shown in the manual.

Yep, going to get the manual soon as I get time to start working on it. It's quite a bit different than my 92 and 95 manual. I never thought about the nuetral switch and of course it will have a kill switch. I was thinking about canabalizing the remote's wiring to make it up. It has the big red plug under the hood. Thanks for the brainstorm on the other stuff. Lee

you need the manual, because you will have to eliminate or splice into the big red plug wiring. do you have tiller handle for it?

I'm bidding on one right now. It will not be the specific tiller setup since this is a remote only motor without the tiller swivel on the mid section. I have seen several done the way I am going to do it and it works slick...they were pull start though. I probably ought to just sell it but it has very low hours. It came off my mothers pontoon that my brother and his buddy sailed off the trailer into the ditch and totalled about 6 years ago. It's just been sitting in the garage.
