Rigging question

I am thinking of replacing an aging 703 side mount control box on my 1994 55hp. I want to use the OX6 control as a replacement. I think I will need the separate ignition switch that has the choke and alarm as well. My main harness has 10 pins. Will this pretty much be plug and play or would I have to buy new harness(es) as well?

Re: Rigging question

Sorry for the backwardness. How about this, 6X0-48206-11-00 binnacle control.

Re: Rigging question

if its the 704 yamaha binnicle you will have to see if you need to push or pull for throttle. the 704 can be set for either by flipping the throttle cam.
on your engine main harness if you have a 7 pin then your harness from the key to the engine needs to be 7 pin, if its a 10 pin then use a 10 pin harness. or you can gut the 703 and shift the alarm horn and keyswitch to the console.
the harness is about 120 and the keyswitch assy is about 160. you may wish to gut your 703. a new 703 is close to 400. the main difference betwee the 10 and 7 pin harness is the additional 3 wires on the 10 pin for trim.
biggest thing is to look at whether you need push or pull on the engine throttle controls to properly set up your new box.

Re: Rigging question

Thanks for the details. I will take a closer look at what I got. The control that I am looking at is flush mounted. All the guts would be inside my console with only the shifter on the outside. I dont think I have enough room on the face of my console for the 704.

Re: Rigging question

BTW, I lived in Manteo from 96-99. That area has changed a lot from what I hear. Haven't been back since moving to Wilmington. What happened to Salty Dawg Marina? I think that's where my motor was bought originally.

Re: Rigging question

salty Dawg went out of bussiness in 04. I worked there from 00 to nov of 04. was a good place.
now its gonna be more condo's.
for the flush mount box I would have to dig out my rigging guide but I think it can be flipped to push or pull as well.

Re: Rigging question

I have a related question. I have 9.9hp 1987 4-stroke (FT9.9EXH). It has no 7- or 10-pin connector on it. I would like to use a 703 control that has a 10-pin plug on its cable, but I haven't been able to find a mating jack on Iboats to mount on the motor. I would mount this on a short pigtail.

What motors have the 10-pin jack so I can look up the part on Iboats.

If I can't find one at a reasonable price, I will probably use a trailer towing plug and jack.
