Right outdrive for the motor?

I just purchased a 1986 Bayliner 25 ft cabin cruiser. The engine is a Chevy 350 w/4 bbl rochester carb. I have been told that it produces over 350 horsepower, and it is paired up with a Volvo AQ 270 outdrive (unknown year) I have been looking around for information on these outdrives, and they all seem to be matched with smaller engines than what I have. Are there problems I should be looking out for with this combination? Thanks.

I doubt you are producing 350 hp. More than likely you are pushing 230 - 260hp Unless the engine is highly modified however the 270 outdrive is designed for much smaller engines. I have the same outdrive on my Volvo 4 cylinder. I believe that Outdrive is designed for engines with less than 200hp.

I agree. I was a little skeptical when he told me that. I will probably be on the lookout for a different outdrive just in case this one gives me trouble.
