Hi!
I’m working on a –91 Johnson 70hp 56 ci 3-cyl. The engine was bought as a rebuild object with two toasted pistons.
With new pistons and the block in new-like shape it’s time to put it together again.

Now to my problem:
The thermostat seems to be changed to the black bullet shaped new thermostat that one of the SB regarding overheating prescribe but the tattle tail outlet have not been repositioned to the top of the block. This leads me to believe that perhaps the pressure relive spring is not changed either.

Q:
Is there any way to find out if I have the pressure relieve spring prescribed in the SB (don’t remember the #) regarding overheating?
Do they differ in length? Or something else I can check?

I know that several people on this forum have changed thermostat and spring in this type of engine so somebody must know!

//Per

PS: Very good forum, it has already saved me a lot of cursing and money :)

The information for the springs and new thermostat cover is on the info sheet that comes with the waterpump kit. My tech libary is packed and in storage, 3/4 weeks before I will be able to get this information. There was no SB for the spring.
