I own a 29' Bayliner, with a 460 OMC King Cobra, and a Bravo II drive. At 45 to 4800 RPM I have trouble getting on plane. My prop size is 5 1/2 x 15 Does this sound about right? It seems to take forever to get on plane, and once I do, I have to be WOT

Re: right prop?

Lets verify the prop size. We assume it's 15 1/2 x 15, right?

Wow, are you sure? I wouldn't think that a 5 1/2" diameter prop would even get on plane with that drive. And the rpm should be outta sight too.

I guess anything's possible but that's a new one on me.

Re: right prop?

I just took my boat out of the water yesterday for the winter, and I checked the prop. Stamped on it, I swear it said 5 1/2 x 15 I'll be going down to the boat in a few days to winterize and close it up. I'll recheck the size again. Mabey it was 15 1'2 x 15 I'll take a pix of it and post it.

That does sound right. I had A boat about the same size and A bit heavier.had twin 302's and didnt have alot of extra throttle. The 15 pitch is also what you need, cant go lower, and higher you will have A harder time getting out of the hole.you might want to try A progressive pitch prop, but for 500 dollars it might not be worth it.

At 5 1/2" diameter it'll be about the same size as the gearcase. It really can't work very well like that. I'd be willing to bet that the blades are out past the gearcase by a good bit.
