OK, I have my sights set on the Monterey 214FS after looking at them with the Admiral. However, we saw a Rinker 212 parked at Walmart today. The Admiral really gives it s good look over (outside of it of course) So we get home and she wants to look at their website...Guess what, she likes it better.

I don't know anything about Rinker so I could use some Any insight would be helpful.

They are priced about the same...the Rinker may be a little less.

I'm soooooooo confused now so I need good input here folks.

In my opinion Monterey and rinker are on the same level....find the best of the two, in other words, which boat has the most features and the best condition.

Re: Rinker Captiva 212 v. Monterey 214FS

I've learned from my own shopping that Rinker often comes with more standard features than other brands, fully included in the initial price. Such as bimini top, carry-on coolers, depth finder, high powered CD player, swim platforms, etc. Usually those things can quickly add thousands to the prices of other boats, while the Rinker comes fully equipped. If such options are important to you, the Rinker is often MUCH cheaper than others (even cheaper than Bayliner and Tahoe at times) by the time you look at final price with options.

Rinker makes a good boat and they've been in business for a long time. Some people are scared away by their wood construction/5 year hull warranty, but the quality is there and if it's cared for properly it will NEVER rot anyway, so I wouldn't let that sway your decision.

I am not real familiar with Monterey, but the little bit of shopping I did with their brand didn't cause them to stick out in my mind greatly. Rinker did stick out, however. Mostly in terms of providing a great amount of value and quality for the money. I'd give it some serious research and consideration.

Rinker 212 is the better value. I found more items standard than the competition. I have had my 01 since 01 and performance and integrity are excellent. I have a 5.0 EFI. I think the trailmaster trailer leaves a bit to be desired. A dual axle would have been better, but the dealer only went single. If I knew then what I know know I'd have paid the difference.
