Im building another motor and while painting my risers i saw the pipe plug at the rear. They are volvo center type risers. I run them on my omc to get the correct angle on my thru hull. Anyway my question is have any of you used stainless ball valves on your risers to drain them? I have a ritual after each lake visit and thought about adding emptying the risers to it. They are easy to get to and im wondering if its better to leave the water in between trips or drain it. Trying to keep rust out

Re: Riser drain ball valve?

Ayuh,.... You can do as ya Please,.... But,.... It's hard to beat a plain ole brass pipe plug for a Buck....

You've gotta be able to pick, 'n prod the port clean to drain the block anyways, 'n the ball-valve is pretty Long for that...

Most of Us just run it til it's time to pull the boat,... That's when mine are Drained... When it's gonna Freeze...

I hear Saltwater Boaters flush with freshwater after runnin', but don't drain 'em after...

Re: Riser drain ball valve?

Thanks bondo. After dealing with water intrusion due to a corroded manifold/riser connection im just being cautious. I also know it basically stays loaded with water. Thanks again.
