Hi all
1998 Bayliner 2452, 5.0 V8.
The boat is out of the water for winterizing, i don't know why but luckily i decided to remove the exhausts, manifolds etc so it would be a lot easier to carry out compression tests plug changes etc.
Starboard side was ok but the port side bottom riser gasket had been leaking, this was a non Mercruiser gasket (will not make that mistake again), however there was water sitting in the bottom of the manifold (oh s***) everyone says and so did i.

I have removed the plugs and sprayed loads of fogging oil into the cylinders disconnected the coil and turned her over a few times ( left the plugs in to help circulate the oil), is there anything else that i should do.
The spark plugs showed no sign of rust but looked like the engine has been running rich, engine oil also ok.
The boat has only been used for about a month since new replacements of the complete sets of risers etc.
What i'm hoping is that water has seeped in but not a lot in which has then been blown back out when the engine has been run. Which i did notice when i ran the engine from the hosepipe with the mufflers. (Looked like black mud from the exhaust for a few seconds).
Any views help is much appreciated.

Re: Riser has been leaking.

Inspect the manifolds and riser gasket surfaces as shown below. If ok, put in the proper Merc gaskets and run it. Then, after it sits for a while, pull the risers again and inspect for water. IF dry, put on another set of new gaskets and you know everything is ok.
Check the surfaces for flatness also.
