Hello all. I purchased a 1989 Formula 26.5' boat with a 454 Merc. The boat is clean and is going to be resold.
From what I have been told this boat hasnt seen salt water but twice. Infact the boat hasnt seen the water in seven or eight years.
I dont want to sell some thing that will give any one problems. Should I change the risers and manifolds? I started the boat the other day and she runs great.I paid very little for the boat and will be asking a good deal for her. I dont mind spending the money or doing the job.
I just dont know if it needs it or not.

Thnx guys and gals.

The thing to do is remove the risers and inspect them before replacing.
Make sure the water passages are clear and the areas marked in the pic are good. If that's ok, get some new gaskets and put it back together.

I would be also be concerned about (poor) fuel quality and related issues. Gas that has sat for years will need to be removed and the entire fuel system should be checked and serviced.

Dave

Dave, I put about 10 gallons of fuel in the boat and drove it around for a while with it on the trailor. I then drained that gas changed all filters and filled it.
She starts right up and runs smooth.
