Went to pick up boat today after installation of 200 Verado and 15 4STK kicker. River test went very well. Didn't get to check fuel economy, but tried two different props and decided to pick up Mirage 17P with PVS holes. It had a great hole shot for a Bayliner 2305 and half load of fuel with this prop(thats about 3800 pounds. For got to put the pitot down on the first few runs on aluminum prop, but put down for run with Mirage. We ran up to 45 mph at 5500 rpm. And it got there very quietly and very quickly with very little engine wake. I'm definetly sold on this motor. There was about 6 other boats in having the same thing done this week at the Marina so they are selling well. Just want to get some info on the net from a owner so others can review. The boat did not sit down much more than normal in the water and it is installed on 6 inch setback transom jack. Will up date with more info after we hit boating season out here in the NorthWest. Motor comes with 3year warranty and Merc is even offering extensions.

I am not familiar with a set back plate, what is it and what does it do for the boat? Is similar to a transom bracket? Is it something one would want running in saltwater?

Re: River Test 200 Verado

Recommended Max RPM is between 5800 to 6400 , but I'm glad they didn't go there during the trial as I'd like to keep motor in one piece for awhile. This is one of the things that allows this motor to achieve a higher max speed than most other motors. Higher RPM's = higher speed if motor can turn prop without slip I believe. But, PMM, This is first prop that I have used that has the vent holes and the hole shot improvement is amazing. I noticed on another forum you had modified your prop with the vent holes and I think I'll follow in your foot steps with my back up Vengance 19 prop and put the vent holes in. You are right, I had motor put on the 6 inch setback Jack Plate because it was already there. Motor has a built in setback it turns out, so could have been put directly to transom with good results. This is a 89 Bayliner Trophy Hardtop 2305 model weighing about 37-3800 pounds with half load of fuel(70 gallons or so). I was really surprised I didn't see the boat set down in the water more with the added weight. They do have different guidelines as to how motor is mounted according to manual I read. Will be modifying dash to install new electronics(my choice) and waiting out winter here till next boat run. If you have more questions feel free. My only regret is I was too busy on river test looking at everything, holding on or operating motor that I forgot to take pictures with my camera. Will get some next time.
