GM IL6 2-bbl carb has gas coming out of the tube on top of the carb when I crank the engine over. When I tap the reservoir it frees the the float and works fine after that. I've tried cleaning the reservoir but it doesn't seem to fix it. Any ideas what I should do next?

sounds like you need to get a rebuilt kit and a new float! you can get a kit that comes with all new gaskets and needle and seat, if you look on the side of the carb there should be a set of numbers in the vertical position, copy all those down and go to your local parts house and ask for a carb rebuild kit and a new float, they will know what to do from there, when you take carb apart to do rebuild it just spray the heck out of it with carburator cleaner and make sure all the passages are clear, the carb kit will have a sheet that shows how it all goes back together. just follow the directions and you should be fine!! Good luck

Tim. Fuel pump Diaphram may be bad . If you follow that tube you will find it leads to the fuel pump and is designed to put gas in the carb upon fuel pump failure to prevent "BOOM" while operating the boat.

Blk n Blu-are we talking about the same thing? I'm talking about the brass (diagonal) tube that comes out at the top of the carb and dumps gas down the throat when the reservoir is over filled (least I think that's what it does!). Is it directly linked to the braided fuel line to the fuel pump? When I tap the carb everything works fine for the rest of the run. But you da Man so what you say...I do! I is jus a po merc dork.
