Has any one ever used or seen this? or does anyone know of one that will work better My 17.5 foot boat is so unstable when on the water you have to hold on to something every time you stand up or step from one side to the other

Re: Rock and Roll Stabilizer

so how bad does it rock and roll? does it feel unsafe to you?
i've got a older hull too. it is quite weight sensitive i think. at least it's way more sensitive than my last boat which was a trihull. also more so than either of my buddies newer boat. ones a 00 bayliner, the other a stingray.
i used to be concerned with the pitching. but after getting used to it, i just get used to it rolling and pitching in the waves. or when i walk back and forth. i don't think there's anything wrong with my boat. like saturated foam or something, but feel it's the nature of the beast in a 1975 vhull. my boat also has non trip chines. which means there rounded at the chines. i don't think that helps with the rock and roll either. maybe that's the case for you too?
as for that rock and roll product. i personally wouldn't want a pole sticking out from the side of my almost fiberglassic. there must be some other answer...

Re: Rock and Roll Stabilizer

what you described is my problem, well not my problem I grew up on boats but the rest of my friends and families problem. And goodness I hate to hear my brother inlaws voice you need to fix this boat its going to roll over on us, or the engines smoking its on fire do you have a fire extinguisher so I was just hoping there was a way to shut his mouth to be honest.

well, ya can tell the bil he don't have to come out on your claissic boat if he don't like it.... maybe he could buy a nice new stable boat everyone could be happy with.... myself, i could live w/o the rock and roll, but like i said. i got used to it and go out in bigger waves than most do..... just give me good sea legs... :D feels strange to be back on land that don't move after a weekend of boating...

the newer boats i've been on are remarkably more stable than my old boat... amazing what technology can do for hull design....

The Hull is Fiberglass though and though, and Its not a Deep V the Stern starts out like a Deep V then a 1/4 way back it starts to level out to a flat bottom it gets to maybe a 10% V the last 3 feet of the boat not sure what that hull type is called.

well if it doesn't bother you, and bothers others, let them buy there own boat. the wider the boat the less the rock, but all boats are going to rock. there have been many people who have not been invited again, for a cruise on my boats. my cousins husband is one, in particular, every time he stepped on board, he broke something. he stepped on my best rod, lost and anchor. he no longer is invited.

Maybe they are related. He couldn't pull my anchor up so he cut the anchor line. then bought me the cheapest anchor he could find that wouldn't even hold a 12 aluminum boat. So I think your right ill just leave him home next time (unfortunately my wife let them move in with us so it'll be a bit rude but hey)

I don't see how that contraption would help rocking, for the better that is.
Tabs should be a better resolution.
My Vees have always been glass tanks. No issues at speed.

Two five gallon buckets, hung over the gunnels, about four feet under water, will help tremendously.

i'd bet that'd work as well as the contraption. the next concern though is where to store whatever. space is limited on a 17.5' boat... a 19' one too. if your convinced that there's nothing wrong with the boat. like i am for mine. learn to live with the rock and roll. it's not really that disconcerting after ya get used to it. imho. for me. after two good boating seasons of of learning how my boat reacts under different conditions, i'm just aware of the rock and roll now and just sluff it off now as part of my boating experience...
