While running at full throttle, I ran into a rock and caused slight damage to the bottom of the lower unit, I think it is called the keel, it is slightly bent maybe about 1 inch off center, the propellor was damaged and that was sent out for repair. So is there any way of straightening the keel...my fear is snapping it, I was thinking heating it up and using 2 steel plates and a couple of heavy duty clamps to slowly tighten down and staighten it out. But maybe I am totally wrong...maybe i should just let it be, its a small 60 hp motor, 1071 Evinrude in case you are wondering.

Tommy,A little heat along the bend crease and a soft faced mallet should work to straighten the skeg.I bent one some years back and was surprised at how forgiving the metal was at bending back into place without fracturing.Good luck.

Tommy, I did the same thing to 15 HP outboard. I put a block of wood on each side and tightend a C clamp until the skeg was straight. Worked like a charm. Good luck.

You can also look into skeggards which are stainless steel covers that repair and protect your skeg. Just search these forums for DIY Skeg and you can read more about them
