Hello out there...
Well now that football season is over it's time to fire up boating season! I always say there are 2 seasons, football and boating!

Last year I rebuilt a 40hp lark (1962 model) 2 cylinder. When I re-assembled I DID NOT use locktite on the rod bolt... I did indeed torque to specs but used no thread locker of any kind.

Although the original bolts were very difficult to remove there appeared to be no thread locker.

Should I have used thread locker? WIll the bolts work their way out?

Thanks a million.

You absolutely should NOT have used Locktite. You notice how hard they were to get out without the Loctite? You may never get them out if you used it. As long as you used the correct torque, you are good to go.

Thanks for the reply Frank! No kidding!!?!? That is reassuring now since I was worried about having to tear it back down. Thanks again.

there are several strenghts of LocTite. The red is the strongest, and requires heat ti get the fastener lose. Blue is a mid to low strength. Does not require heat, but is still hard to get apart.

As F_R said, as long as it's torqued properly, you don't need it. Loctite was not around when your motor was built.
