What kind of rod holders do you guys have in jon boats, and where do you mount them. I'm not talking about rod holders for trolling, just for transport and waiting. I was thinking about those 'el cheapo' plastic holders, which should be fine for what I want. Do you just screw/bolt them into the gunwale, or do you mount them to the seats? I'm too used to my big boat, and have to retrain my boat thinking process.

Hi Beefer. Here are mine. Just some PVC dry fitted together and attached to the rubrail with some SS screws, but you could mount them anywhere you wanted and can make a bank of as many as you want. I kind of prefer running around with my rods up rather than laying down lengthwise. A whopping $5, I think.

Here are some other clever PVC rod holders too.

i just took some 3/4 inch PVC pipe and cut them about 8 inches long and screwed them to the edge of my seats. ( the seats are wooden)

Good ol' PVC. Beauty of a utilitarian boat is not stressing over such things.

+2 on the pvc. I mounted mine on the sides of the boat facing forward. I didnt want them sticking up because it is hard to cast around them. Use thru-hull sealant.
