By now you probably remember the details of my motor. 1995 Yam 175, purchased about a year ago, has about 700 hours on it. On the cooling sys I have replaced impeller, t-stats and poppet. I don't know the details of its maint history but do know it was not great. The motor currently runs great and pees like an eighteen year old.

As part of spring maint would you advise pulling the heads cleaning and inspecting the water channels etc?

depends on the scale issue in your area. at 10 years old you may run into a head bolt breakage issue.
try to flush it with some of the salt away items. without knowing how bad the scaling is I dont want to say flat out yes or no. are you going to attepmt the work or have it done ?

Was planning on doing the work myself. The t-stat and poppet bolts came out very clean. Is this any indicator of what to expect with the head bolts? I realize there is no way to know for sure. It's currently running so well, I'm inclined to leave well enough alone and attempt a teardown only if a problem arises.

look inside the t-stat and poppit cavities. will give an indication of scale build up. if its not bad I dont think I would teake it apart. especially if its not been apart.
