Gentlmen would someone explain the roll and tip method with regards to painting. I understand everything right up to the point where you use a dry brush or dry roller to smooth out the first coat application. So now you have rolled the first coat on a 4'x4' area (for argument sake),you use a dry brush or roller whatever, everything looks okay, you proceed to do another 4'x4' area usingf the same roller, now my question is the 1st. brush and/or roller have some paint on them,do you "chuck" those and use some new ones or do just carefully wipe the paint off them and then keep on using them.If thats the case could you get away with using your first or primary roller and your "tipping brush or roller" if you're painting an 18' boat.

Check out youtube and do a seach. I'm pretty sure Jamestown Distributors has a demo video there on the topic.

The guy in this video is awesome at it:

You are rolling the paint on and then using a dry brush just to lightly smooth out the roller marks and create a nice even surface. You shouldn't need a new brush and roller for each section, but I would keep some acetone or thinner on hand to clean everything up afterwards. Hopefully ezmobee will weigh in, I know he's pretty good at it.

I used closed-cell rollers from Iboats, followed by cheap foam brushes...you just barely tip the rolled paint, with the lightest touch. I went through a couple of bags of foam brushes from Wallyworld...just toss them when you think it's time. Otherwise, you are right on the money...cover some, stop, tip. Temperature makes a difference, follow your paint instructions.
