Previously posted in mid February and I want to thank those who responded with tips, advice, etc. Anyway, I'm making progress as a rookie boat owner. First, I had to flush out the gas tank as it was way loaded up with oil. That eliminated the smoke problem. Still, my Merc 150 V6 had a sporadic 'miss' that seemed to disappear just about the time I had someone come to look at it. Ended up changing out one of the switch boxes (thanks to Sunset Marine for the help). Also pulled the lower end and replaced the water pump Now this old boat/motor combo (1981 Ranger 188) runs great. So, now that I am getting my feet (and ***) wet, I just need to remember to put the danged plug in before I launch! Goin' Fishin'---Scrappinjack
