rope length

How much rope do you guys prefer when wake boarding? I've been experimenting with 55 and 65 foot lengths. I've really never heard what the standard lenght is and was just curious, what everybody else was using. My son prefers the 65 foot rope.

We use anywhere between 65' and 85' dependent on the rider.

My son likes the rope shorter the wake is taller and narrow doesn't take as much speed to clear.

I like 85(80' rope 5' handle) the wake isn't as tall but the extra line length gives me more speed.

For new riders if you have a tower the shorter the line the easier it is for them to get up.

there really isn't a 'standard' length exactly. the clean spot of the wake is the target and that's different at different speeds. rider comfort will determine that, too.

We use a 60' rope. I found if you play with the trim you can move the clean portion of the wake right to where the wakeboarder is riding.

a trick i've heard is to set your speed where you want to run and let the rope out to where the wake is clean as it drags behind the boat. that will set your length.

Get everything ready in your boat how it will be when you are boarding - where everyone will sit, hook the rope up etc., then come up to the speed you like when boarding, then feed the rope handle out to the clean spot on the wake, tie a loop at that point. Simple.
We use a much shorter rope to get to the clean part of the wake, and the kids can jump wake-to-wake easier. We also have a few loops tied in the rope about 3 feet apart so we can make easy adjustments for different riders
