The marina is offering a 25 HP Etec, Electric start and a 30 HP etec rope start. The rope start is 200 more. Is it tough to start the rope start? Is the xtra HP worth getting the rope start?

Re: Rope Starting Etec? Hard or easy?

These motors electronics are designed for the motor to fire within one revolution of the flywheel. I don't see a problem. I have a 75hp E-Tec, (electic start of course). Have never had to use the rope, but it starts so soon it almost scares you if you are used to other 2 stroke motors.

I have rope started my old 70hp Johnson a few times before I figured out that the starter selinoid was bad, no problem pulling it over.

For only five extra hp I'd take the 25 elect start. First off you wouldn't notice that much difference in performance (if any) and second you can buy $200.00 worth of beer.

The 25 On a 280lb 16 ft aluminum utility.2 men 6 gals gas and gear will do
31 + mph and get over 10 mpg.Will get 16.8 mpg at 21.5 mph.
The 30hp will probably get to 30 quicker but won't run much faster.
If your a young guy a good running motor isn't hard to start
but if your getting on cranking even a healthy motor could be a real chore.

I was talking to the Marina today and the price of the 30HP Etec is only 50 bucks more. It's a 2010. So now I think the 30hp would be a better buy.

A 440 lb aluminum must be loaded with floors, live well etc or does that include the motor? From my limited experience similar aluminum boats speed can vary quite a bit.
Believe it or not a similar boat in a 16 could be faster as the wider linger surface area helps it get up on the water better. Also a larger boat will usually plane easier with a load assuming it isnt loaded up with too many add ons.
