Rotary Question

I was thinking about taking apart the rotary on my steering system to check and make sure the gears are ok so i would only have to replace the cable, which a friend has and might just give to me for free. Should i just pull it apart or am i doing a bad thing? I dont want stuff to start popping out! Any advice would be great!

If you can remove the cable with out opening the rotory unit , I'd suggest that . Give it a good greasing then install the new cable . If there is slippage in the gears or steering shaft then maybe investigate . Don't make a simple fix into a major repair . peter
