I have a 1996 Bayliner Capri 1750 and the steering is pretty stiff. I am looking to get a new steering system and wanted to know the difference between rotary and rack & pinion. Is one smoother than the other?
Currently I have a teleflex R&P system in there but not sure how old it is or if it is worn out. I checked under the dash and some of the bolts seem to be loose and possibly stripped out.
Also, the steering wheel has between 1/4 and 1/2 turn of slack in it before it actually engages a turn. I also wanted to know if there is anyway I can test the system without fully disconnecting it? Thanks!
