no advantage either way except how they fit under the dash... just replace with what you have now

Re: rotary vs rack

That's kinda what I thought just seen on teleflex website that the rotary is 3 turns while the rack is 4 I thought I'd just put it out there to try see if anybody is partial to one or the other and why im kinda leaning towards rotary because of size and # of turns thanks for the response

Re: rotary vs rack

I have had both on various hulls and as far as steering, there is no major difference. HOWEVER: because the rack has a pinion gear and a toothed rack attached directly to the cable it is a bit stronger than rotary. On the down side, you can not just replace a bad cable, you must replace the whole rack and cable assembly.

The rotary systems use the spiral wound cable fit into a matching cast aluminum drum. because of this, it is easier to strip out the drum under high loads. I have seen people do this when the cable went bad and jammed.

As far as fit and convenience, the rotary systems are better.

I have also had both. I can definitely see what Frank is saying about the rack being potentially more durable. Personally I found the rotary system to have just a bit less slop to it.

Thanks guys I knew about replacing the helm to switch to rotary but thanks for the heads up I just kinda figured I'd switch to rotary to give me a little more behind the dash and its less turns

Re: rotary vs rack

I've had both. Currently have the no feedback (NFB) rack which I really like. Turn loose of the wheel while running and it stays where you left it. I don't know if the rotary has that or not but I wouldn't get one without it.
