What exactly can disintegrate there around the rotor button and will it cause a weak spark?
And what symptoms does it cause as far as the motor goes?

Re: rotor button

must be the carbon contact in the distributer,if thats what he means ,if it disintegrates there is no possitive contact between coil and rotor spring contact (too many air gaps)causing a weak or no HV to the spark plug towers.

And that problem then gives off a somewhat lower spark I guess.
It does run but could be better .It wants to cut out at forward gear ,could that have something to do with it since the spark is not strong?
Whats the HV?high voltage?

Re: rotor button

You guessed it -there was nothing but a spring on it-no carbon tip piece at all.I guess that had been why the fire was weak. Did that have any connection to why it did not engage well when going into forward gear,it bogged out unless I rushed it into gear?
And the wire in the cap was corroded some too, replace it all.

The carbon button and spring are one piece. The rest of the cap can be cleaned with carb cleaner, a toothbrush ans Q-tips, and then run through the dishwasher. A little green stuff on the posts in there won;t change the world.

But yes... a bad carbon button can hurt your performance. A good place to start at least.

-W
