It is an '86 Bomber F&S with a mercruiser i/o.
The shops say it has a rotted transom.
It has been garaged up until 2 years ago, and don't want to spend $2k to fix her.
Is there a simpler fix that will make her safe?
The book vale on the boat is about $1500.
Can she be used as-is?
She does not have cracks in the fiberglass...
Help1
Thanks, Bo

Not having cracks in the fiberglass is a good thing. Even if it doesn't leak, doesn't mean that it is safe. Have you used a screwdriver to push into the wood on the inside to see how easy or far it goes into it?

Look at the pics in my project, Is your rot as bad as that?

What you need to worry about is the unforseen things under the water. If the wood in the transom is real bad (like mine) and you hit a submerged object, it can bust the glass at the outdirve and let water pour in. This will ruin your day in minuets.

On my boat, I was aware and never gone into waters I wasn't sure about. I also just idled around not to stress the transom. This year the damage got worse and finally said I had to fix it before having a major bad day.

Good Luck..........SS

Just knowing the transom was rotted while underway would make for a nerve racking day, and not very enjoyable. I'm sure if you're handy, and ask alot of questions here at this site, you'll be able to restore the transom for under 2k. Play it safe, and eirther fix it, or junk it, and get yourself another one
