My 23 Anancapri ,has a rotted and termite eaten transom.Boat had a seadrive and during my conversion of putting a bracket on,I found the transom was breakfast, lunch, dinner and then some for THOUSANDS of termites.Ive done a few transoms ,the old fiberglass and plywood sandwich way.Has anyone used anything else.I have read about the seacast. But,I'm recalling hearing about some kind of lightweight foam board that you glass in.If not,my intent is to use about 3 pieces of 5/8 or 3/4 plywood.use the penetrating epoxy stuff and pre paint the boards, then using cabosil mixture ,butter each precut piece and glass them in running the glass out onto the floor and sides. This boat will have a bracket and a 225 mounted.Any tips, greatly appreciated. Mike

Re: Rotted transom Too

If it's as Bad as you Say,........

I'd go with a traditional Wooden transom......

There's little or No compressive Strength in Foams,+ Seacast is fine for Small repairs, I personally can't see the Strength in it for a Complete Transom......

Two pieces of 3/4 marine grade plywood is plenty of beef. Just make sure you have strong inner and outer transom skins. I'd use 4 layers of 1708 or 1808DB on the inside with extra tabbing at the corners. Follow that up with a finish layer of 1.5 oz mat and you'll have one strong a#$ transom.
