ROTTEN 89 130hp Yamaha shift shaft

Capt. Ken or anyone else know if a Stainless Steel shift shaft is avaible for 89 model 130hp, 25"engines or, Can a later model mid to late 90's shaft (OEM SS shaft) be used in place of the standard steel type in the early motors HELP Please!!!

Yamaha came out with a replacement shift rod that is stainless. Contact your dealer. They are about $35-$40 bucks. You have to pull the powerhead to replace the rod. I did two jobs in the past month just replacing those rods with the stainless rods. It is not hard. Should take 1-2 hours. The only other item you need is a power head gasketl Good Luck
