Hello everybody, I have the typical dumbass boat owner story of the rotten floor. I own a 93 Crownline 196 (19') bow rider, had it for three years, not a whole lot invested in it but it sure has been fun for the family. The drivers seat post about fell over last weekend so I took it up to find the floor had been patched and was broke all up. I peeled off the deck to find a totaly rotted support box for the post. I read for a about an hour on I-boats about repairing it. Decided it was too hot and I had to little time and experience so I called a "guy" on Craigslist. He seemed knowledgable and honest. Wrong! When I stopped by the next day he had opened up most of the deck, I saw where the stringers were glassed in, the wood could be dug out with your fingers. The next day he called and said he was finished, I knew then I had been screwed, I told him I wanted to see the material he had used to replace and seal the stucture and the floor, he had nothing, Told him I had bruoght a holesaw to take a core sample from the floor and I would pay him $100 for his time, whitch I did and now I have to rip out the floor and do it myself. I will do it after this season. He did support it well enough to hold the seats. My ? is when replacing the stringers can I use treated 2x's and just slide them in the slots left by the rotted ones?

can I use treated 2x's

My take is, dont use treated wood at all. It will react with the resin.
Just use regular wood and either roll on a coat of resin or wrap it in glass.
Since this will be a winter project you can take your time and take apart more than enough to do the job right.
As for sliding it in the holes, I think your better off cutting out the old glass and setting and reglassing the new stringers.

Best of luck.

When you set the stringers, do you just glass them down to the inside of the hull and that will be the strength they need?

You should bed them in with something.
I have not done stringers but there are alot that have. Read some of the Starcraft posts in that section and the resto sections. They know more than me.
I would think any kind of caulk that will not dry solid or hard will do. You want it to flex a bit.
Then glass them in with woven roving and chopped matt. For my transom I used one layer of heavy woven and then built up with chopped until I had the thinkness I needed.

Don't use 2xs,use 3/4 plywood,if you want thicker, double it then reglass to hull

B-fan, what the hay, You must have mistaken me for someone else, 92 excel is clearly someone with a much higher intelligence and skill level than I will ever have. But seriously, He really did it right and sure made it look good. I have not been far enough in to my Crownline to see what all it will entail, But I don't believe I will go that deep on my own. I will need to know what some of his abbreviations were, such as PL and others --- thanks for the referral it was enlightening at the least.
