I have a 71 Silverline and the floor and stringers are rotten. I have read several posts on here about how to repair them and I am leaning towards seacast at the moment as I would prefer a permanent repair. Has anyone ever tried using Trex decking as replacement stringers? It is a wood/plastic composite that is completely waterproof and never rots. I am also considering using 3/8 to 1/2 plastic squares for the floors. It is harder than wood and also will never rot. Both these items can be had at building material liquidators for a resonable price.

Another question I have is a see alot of talk about foam. My boat has five stringers and maybe a foot between each one and does not have foam. Is it necessary to fill the void w foam?

Re: Rotten floor Stringers

compare the weight of the composite materal to wood. foam was not a requirement until 1972, i believe. it's just added protect in case you 'hole' the boat. without it, it almost guaranteed to sink, completely.
