im looking at an outboard for sale the guy dosent know much about it and its been in his garage forever etc. Im guessing its approximately the 60s but not sure. Hoping you could help
Thanks, its was a kicker on a guys boat, sold the boat and kept the motor in his garage. he says it has great compression (ill check) he only wants $300-350. so im going to buy it to sell again.
If it was shiny and slick--you'd get way different opinions as to the condition and running of it.Most folks just take a tad better care than others when it comes to $$ items.I have a 76 Mariner all scuffed up from po--runs like champ!
I bought one of these about 15 years ago that was always used in salt water. Only paid $150. Could not get it apart to change the impeller so I ran it until it seized up. Got about 6 seasons out of it and then sold it for parts for $50. Was a good motor all that time.
Good luck to you with it.
I'm not saying it for sure is corroded. I only raised the possibility going by the looks of it. It seems to have seen so much salt that we had a hard time telling if it was a red band or blue. Also, look at the upper part of the lower unit and over the cavitation plate. It looks corroded and that part did not run aground.
