rough idle and dies in gear

hello every one. I have a 1990 evinrude 90hp V4 that idles rough then dies and when put into gear dies. The engine did start at high revs approx a week ago and have had this problem since. The engine will start on high revs but when put to idle after warm it will run for a little while cough then die. if i do get it into gear it dies straight away. The carbs gave been stripped and cleaned as per the manual, the plugs and leads have been renewed and spark seems to be good, the compresion is good. my thoughts are ignition coil/power pack problem but how can i check these? or am i well of track here? any advice/help will be appeciated.

Link and sinc has been done but just found a nut loose on one of the ignition coils so will be trying that out tomorrow as a little too hot here at the moment. thanks for advice will let you know how went on.

right linc and sinc'd the engine, rechecked the sparks and seem to be good, checked the power pack and the readings are good and timed the engine as best it will go.

the engine ticks over ok although a little lumpy as if its missing a little, revs are responsive out of gear all the way to full. go to open the throttle in gear and it holds back and dies a little before it takes off. have to increase revs slowley as if i go to put full power on it hold right back then dies as if too much air is getting into carbs althought they have been stripped and cleaned. I am at a loss now anyone help please.
