I have a 1973 Searay SRV 190 19ft closed bow , with 888 outdrive. I think I have a problem with the idle circut in my carb . The motor runs fine and smooth when sitting at idle , but when I put it in gear to motor out past the no wake zone I have to feather the throttle to keep it running or it will die. After throttling up to speed , it runs fine. Any ideas here ?

Re: Rough idle when in gear.

Ayuh,... When was the last time it had a general Tune up, 'n Service,..??

Could be as simple as the fuel filters,...

Re: Rough idle when in gear.

First thing I would look at is your idle rpm out of gear with the engine warm and the choke fully released. If that is too low then you will lower it even more when in gear and that could be the problem. Guessing here that 400 to 500 is too low so an in gear rpm less than that will make it die. If your rpm is ok check you idle screws on the bottom of the carb. adjust them by the book at idle. If they dont adjust ( change the rpm ) the carb needs rebuilt. Check the manual for the rpm numbers.

oops posted same time as bondo . do what he says
