Partial tune up?
Give it a tune up: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, set timing.

The rough idle could be caused by all sorts of things....."partial tune up", bad fuel, carb idle mixture screws out of adjustment, carb idle circut full of garbage, sunk float, and on it goes.

Eliminate potential problems one at a time.

Your dented SS prop is destroying your outdrive. A prop repair or a new prop would be much cheaper than rebuilding the drive.

1 1/16th" Wrench,+ a Block of Wood is All it Takes................
In or Out of the Water............. :D

Use the block of wood to keep the prop from turning by wedging it between the prop,+ drive.......
Turn the nut Off.....
Pull the prop Off...........
Reassembly is the reverse.....

Did the engine start idling rough before or after the "Partial Tuneup"? Could be crossed plug wires.

In the process of doing a COMPLETE TUNEUP, You might also want to do a proper Compression Test and running a vacuum gauge on the engine to make sure there is not a mechanical reason for the miss.

Bent up props won't cause a miss at idle, but it sure will cause the engine to not get full rpm, or too much rpm (Depending on how the blades are bent) and a serious loss of performance.

I just put it in gear. Forward I think to get the prop nut off, and reverse when putting it on.

I find it easier to use a block of wood (or my rubber mallet in my case) just because it saves me a trip in and out of the boat. And the older I get the worse it gets :(

Re: Rough Idle>>>??

You have several things you could drop in the water.
Things will come off in this order
1. Cotter pin
2. Cover over nut with notches cotter pin goes through.
3. Thrust washer (smaller diameter with splines)
4. Prop
5. Thrust washer (ID is tapered to fit shaft)

Be careful of that last thrust washer that is between the prop and the drive. It can stick to the prop and fall off just as you are removing the prop.
For your first time changing the prop I would recommend you do it out of the water so you can actually see what you are doing and understand how it works.
