rough runner at higher RPM and high temp

I have a 2006 Penta 5.7 OSXi which is acting up and request any ideas you guys might have.

It runs wells at low RPM. idle while fishing and at 3000 while running out early in the day. after 5 hours fishing at idle she will not rum at 3000 and runs rough at anything above 2000.

My thoughts are two: Fuel filter and/or salt water intake.

Today I plan to change out the fuel filter and hook a hose to the fresh water input on the engine. /will this hose back flush the saltwater intake that might be plugged or is there anything else I should do? thx..

Change the fuel filter for sure, but also empty the old filter and look for water or debris in the filter.

When was the last time the raw water pump impeller was replaced?

What is the full model number of your engine, year doesn't mean anything on engines.

If your high temp alarm went off and the engine went into "engine protection mode", you may need to reset it....but it will not allow you to go above 2500 rpm until the condition is cleared...

still working the issue. Used Salt Away as per bottle instructions for 6 days and temp stays at 175 on the gauge. I have purchased a Lazer Temp gun to check out the temps on the Risers at various RPMs. What temps should I see on the risers? thx

What does that have to do with your original problem? Did you also have an overheat or an alarm you forgot to mention?
