Routing exhaust out transom???

Hey hey, I would like to rout my exhaust so it doesn't go into my out drive, just like the sound of it! Lol. I have a '71 GM I4. Thinking of getting a V8 in the future. I know where there is a cheap one, says its only 188hp tho.

Does anyone have any info on doing this? Pros n cons? Pictures?

Any help would be awesome!!

Ayuh,.... It ain't gonna happen, 'n it would sound worse than a tractor without a muffler...

the exhaust outlet will be in a different area on the 4-banger than on a V6/V8, so if you cut a hole in the transom for the 4 banger, then switch, you will be reglassing the transom to put new holes in.

Plus as Bond-o pointed out, a 4-banger with open exhaust does not sound good. think pinto with bad muffler

Ah yeah good point guys!!

Do you guys know much about this V8 188hp marine engine? It's been a while, I think it's a ford.. It.blows my mind that it has a sticker "188HP" the engine is like new! The guy is holding onto it for me, he only wants $300 for it. He's a car guy and has no use for it, he was going to scrap it!! He's a friends good old friend and says the engine is excellent and stored properly.

does it come with an outdrive? because it wont connect to your existing drive (which wouldnt be a good idea anyway - gearing, etc.)

Well I have the upper out drive for a V8 on my boat now. It was a good deal so I tried it.
I realize I would need a intermediate housing, I've seen them on eBay for fairly cheep!

Are the 188hp's a good engine? Reliable? Any idea how much heavier it is and affects on the boat?
