Hello I am having a problem with my 1979 Thunderbird formula Model F 233 C here's the problem I have recently rebuilt the motor from the bottom up on an MCM 260 do about 300 horsepower and I'm having problems attaining my topping and wide open throttle speed which the book States should be between 42 and 4600 and a cruising speed of about 35 to 37 miles an hour right now I'm having problems achieving that my wide open throttle seems to only go to about 3400 RPMs and I'm only able to achieve about 21 to 22 miles per hour on the water what I'm asking is could it be that my prop the pitch on my outdrive is incorrect and what would be needed in order for me to get the wide open throttle top end speed of say 35to 37 miles per hour at the 42 to 4600 RPMs I'm currently using a 15 by 17 degree pitch prop and I'm able to get about 27 miles per hour at 3200rpms and I'm getting a little bit of a heating issue going because the motor actually feels like it's over revving if you follow me and that I need more bite in the water in order to get the hot top end speed. I have a new distributor points coil plugs wires insulated plug wires new plugs and brand new Rochester 4-barrel carburetor I'm really looking for some help trying to figure out why I don't have the top at wide open throttle RPMs and the speed over the water that I should the boat is heavy it's a fiberglass about 4000 lb I really hope I can get some help from someone out there and getting this problem of mine resolve just getting very frustrating look forward to hearing from you thank you

Need to make sure we are getting accurate info as in, if the tach is accurate, the speed needs to be GPS and need to know what the drive ratio is?

It could be your reaching max WOT but the boat tach doesn't show it.

Is the speed coming from the boat speedometer or GPS?
