rpm tach rises to end

hello i have a 140 merc.my tach some time rises to end and returns to normal.could be at 900rpm for a while then it rises to end but motor stay same,sometime tach stay at end for short while.check wires but nothing loose.also relies when start my engine voltlight comes on when choke wire is connected to carb where it goes, till i disconnect it if this means anything.

sounds like a wiring issue. Problably a loose or bad connection in the main harness. Id try cleaning the contacts or checking to see if its solidly plugged in properly.

You might want to reread that post.
Are you talking about the tachometer needle moving to the end of the scale?
Sounds like it's time for a new tachometer.
