RPMs bounce

Just got a used boat 98 force 120hp engine. I needed to have the carbs rebuilt. I had this done but now the rpms bounce at idle. I was worried about the old fuel that was left in the tank after the rebuild (about a quarter of tank) is this the culpret. The mechanic said it would be fine

Mr. Newowner,<br />Dump the gas. I don't know how old it is but it's just another variable when trying to work out engine problums. Us fresh fuel. That way, there won't be any questions.<br /><br />G'luck & c/6<br /><br />hooty
