I've heard both schools of thought about the filler blocks. Some say use 'em, others say don't. What're the pros & cons?

c/6
Hooty

On what engine? Mine have them on the reed side of the intake. Adds crankcase pressure, pushing more fuel and air into the cylinder.

The theroy is that they fill dead space and cause more fuel to go into the by-pass area. OMC didnt use them, then they did, then they obsoleted the part number. In reality they make a difference but only after a certian rpm. Ususally in the mid to upper 6000 range. At that rpm youre gonna want the Boyesen reeds anyway. Just make sure the stuffers are seated deep enough to not interfere with the reed action (Boyesens dont use reed stops).

Good luck!

I was waitin' for the big "D" to answer this one because I didn't think they were worth a darn unless turning ultra-high RPM......guess I second guessed myself, and didn't want to sound like a fool...........Thanks Dhadley! atleast I know I was thinking correctly........ :)

From the mid range, depending on what your calling, to upwards of 6,000 is a lot to me. Hooty, I don't know what you are after, but that is how you increase horsepower, is a bunch of small things. Stuffing the intake, removing casting flash, blending rough areas, squaring off the ports, tightening up heads, etc, etc.

If your not interested in more power, chunk 'em.

FC

Thanks for the responces. I use 'em, along with Boyesen Reeds and the other stuff Forkin' Crazy mentioned, but like I said, some say not to.
Why not?

c/6
Hooty

The only reason I've heard people say they dont use them is that the motor doesnt run any differently with or without them. Which I would agree with on a set up that wont turn over 6000.

I have seen a situation where the manifold wont lay flat in the front half unless you remove them.
