So I'm changing out my old 1 piece manifolds (1998 merc 4.3L v6) to the conventional style two piece manifold/riser set up. The flappers on the starboard y pipe are completely gone. The ones on the port y pipe look fine. Should I worry about the rubber flappers being lodged down in the y pipe somewhere. Maybe they have deteriorated to the point that they passed thru the exhaust system but maybe not. I cant think of any way to fish them out of the y pipe if they are still in there. Thanks

Ayuh,... Probably Not is more like it....
Either fish 'em out from the top, or Pull the drive,+ dig 'em out from the bottom...

Worry about where the old flapper has ended up? I certainly would!:eek:

Read THIS....

I'd start by trying to run a stiff wire up from the bell housing (drive removed) and see if you can hook it out.

Thanks for the replys. I guess I'll try and fish those rubber flappers out. The center hinge/rod is still in place but the flapper on each side looks like it dry rotted and fell off. There's just a little bit of crumbly rubber left attached to the hinge.
