Rubber gasket in alpha1 installation kit sealant?

The manual makes no reference towards any sealant. I've read elsewhere to use liquid neoprene sealant - naturally I do not have that.
Is a sealant required on this big rubber gasket?
If so would a good RTV or similar sealant work if allowed to cure first?

This is on a Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive.

thanks

No on the RTV. You can use 3m weatherstrip adhesive, or bellows cement. You can by the weatherstrip adhesive at any major store like Wally World - or any auto parts store. You do need to glue it in place, or you are likely to knock it out of place when re-installing the drive.

Grease might work if you know what you're doing, but best to just glue it in place so the drive doesn't knock it out of position while you are trying to install the drive. If it does get moved, you will end up with water in the bellows, and end up replacing your gimbal bearing and ujoints, and having water in your drive.
RTV makes a mess to clean up. Bellows adhesive is what I have used for years.

Yeah that big rubber seal. I tried something I had here. I don't think it will come loose but will check it first and will test fit it tomorrow.

The outdrive just presses against the gasket, correct? And I take it, the only time it can get knocked off is during installation??

thanks guys
