This is a continuation of my "rebuilding my cards" post I made on Friday.
Part 1 ....
I decided to get things started on Friday night with my carbs. I was going to pull the carbs off the motor, take them apart and let the parts soak overnight. Much to my surprise, I found out that all my carbs, all 6 of them, were completely and totally made of .... plastic! The photo below is the one I took on Saturday. I started at about 7pm on Friday night and was out of the shower and finally in bed at 3:17 am...!
I took all the carbs off the motor, one by one, and found a few things quite interesting. 3 of the "low speed jets" (that required no special tools whatsoever on my carbs, just a flat tipped screwdriver) were completely and totally "clogged" and one of them took some SERIOUS feeding of a piece of "trolling wire" that I cut from one of my pre made Ballyhoo rigs into the hole in the low speed jet to get the clog out! It was almost like a piece of "brown toothpick" was lodged into the hole.
I am starting to be under the assumption that something made its way into the cowling of my motor, and then under the carb cover and decided to make a residence in the jet holes! Anywho, the carbs went back together and Saturday morning, I did a "decarbonize" treatment to the motor and even though people told me I wouldn't believe the stuff that would come out my exhaust, I really had no idea THAT much stuff was going to come out! The motor ran a billion times better and I cannot wait until I can hit the water again!
Part 2 ....
As some of you may remember, I had my "fuel tank" dilema as well. I decided to pull the tank after looking inside the tank thru the "fuel sender hole" and saw things in the tank that I just did not like! It looked like a million "lungers" from someone who had been smoking much too long!
After getting the tank out of the boat, this is what I was presented with.....
First things first.... someone replaced this tank sometime ago and put in a new "poly" tank. When they put the tank in the boat, they neglected to realize that they needed to have some "clearance" UNDER the tank to allow any water to flow that may get into the bilge. In front of the tank, there is approximately 12 inches of space, 12 inches deep, that was FILLED with water (and Mosquito larvae
) that I drained out before I started to remove the tank.
The next thing I realized is that when they installed the tank, they tried to hold it in place with "expanding foam" and they sprayed some of the foam UNDER the tank, which made if "bow" upwards on the bottom, therefore, reducing the interior size of the tank! As you can see from the photo, the tank went from being a 62 gallon tank to probably a 40 (or less) gallon tank!
This is a bad pic because of the light but you can see all the expanding foam in the bottom and the foam that was sprayed around the tank to hold it in place.
So after neutralizing the remaining gas in the tank, filling it with water and a full capfull of Tide twice and bleaching the inside and the outside of the tank a few times, this is what I am left with....
My next dilema is to change where the pickup is inside the tank. They used the "forward" pickup in the tank, and that was a problem because when it got really low, the gas was all in the back of the tank!
In addition, I was also asking of anyone knew of a place where I can get a LARGER tank? I would love to fill up the 12 inches in front of the tank and I figured that would give me a 88 galloon tank, which is what I really need to make those insanely stupid, far offshore runs because this 225 is a THIRSTY girl!!!!
By the way, there is nothing, no tag, no markings, nothing to tell me who makes this tank, where it came from, how many gallons, etc....
