Im going to mount a trim/tilt on my restore ( 1989 175 hp rude, t/t came with the boat when i bought it, but motor was burnt up) I dont have any of the mounting bolts which i looked up the length that I need and will take it to the haedware store to match the threads up. Im not paying $14-24 a piece for them! I also need the trim cylinder pin that goes in the ram to lift the motor up and the cheapest im seeing these are on ebay for $50 + 9.99 shipping. Im having a hard time spending that much on a pin. Does anybody have any ideas on where to get one of these cheaper. or know where I can look to get dimensions and possibly have a shop make one?

Re: Rude tilt cylinder pin

almost every mounting shaft for almost every trim system ever made is just a piece of SS round rod. try onlinemetals.com since you probably just have a hacksaw and a drill ... get machinable 318 SS rod and some SS cotter pins. It can be argued that a floating shaft with cotter pins is better than a fixed shaft since it has less tendency to build up ALOX and sieze. I personally think that if the system is structurally sound with a floating pin then it is definitely a better choice than a lot of the factory pins.

Thanks, I oredered a piece from them yesterday. The armature that it goes through on the motor is 3". How much longer do you think I should make it to have room for the cotter pins ?
