I just replaced the stator on my 90 HP Force motor and I found a bad coil after the repair. The motor ran great before it died so I have a feeling I must have ruined the coil somehow during my seemingly endless testing of the electrical system.

My question is: Can you ruin the coil if you turn over engine with the spark plug cables not attached to anything?

Does it ruin them right away, or is it through prolonged cranking/running?

Re: Ruin Coil Ungrounded Plugs???

The funny thing is that the resistance test passed fine on all three coils, however I didn't have any spark on the #2 coil. After I swapped coils I verified it was the coil that was bad.

FYI - I replaced the coil with Sierra aftermarket and initially it didn't fit right so I had to remove the rubber cover and turn it around to get it to fit right. The cover is not the same on both sides...
