noticed the past 2 weekends when i washed boat my rule 100 pump i installed last year was short cycling, (surging), on and off , when i hit the manual switch pump worked perfect so i ran water into bilge and the pump kicked on and started surging on and off again, this time i continued to put water into bilge and it just keot surging until i hit the manual switch again, pump is one year old and i think it does not have a float switch but some type of circuit board to sense water, is there a better pump someone can recommend my boat is in a slip and i want a pump i can trust or maybe a fix for this pump.

Ayuh,.... Those pumps Suck,.... the life right outa my batteries,....

I fixed mine by puttin' in a float switch, 'n hookin' up the manual over-ride wire to it,...

Those circuit boards are so stupid . . . I had the same pump . . . couldn't understand why it was cycling on for a short blast and then turn right off. . . . Then I read the instructions (I know that's cheating, but sometimes I do it anyway) . . . it turns out that the pump is designed to cycle every 2 minutes and if it senses any water pressure, then it keeps running for a while.

Like Bond-o said, those things will run your battery down . . . So a float switch is the way to go and hook it up to the manual wire rather than the automatic. they should put warning labels on those things or something

Re: rule bilge pumpm short cycling

just did a internet search on these pumps, they are real POS, mine lasted a year thats a real record breaker compared to what i have read, funny thing is rule keeps making them, it seems they have a 3 year warranty so im bringing it back, getting a new one and hooking up a float switch, i dont mind it going on every 2.5 minutes, my boat has shore power and a built in battery charger but if the pump stays on like most are doing it will kill the batteries anyway, im tired of installing junk!!!!!!!! oh yeah i had the same problem with the battery charger, i am on my second charger and from what i have read they are only lasting for a year also, everything is junk!
