run/charge switch

Question?? I have a 4 wire setup for 12/24 ,run /charge switch........
I would like to use all 4 wires with one battery (12volt) to correct small wire issue (amp draw)....I understand thats ok in the charge position.
Will it be a direct short if it accidentially gets switched to run???

It will cause a problem. What size wire are we talking about and how big is the motor.

Battery 1 is, Im guessing 10 gauge....battery 2 is smaller 12 or 14 gauge.
I just bought this boat and previous owner had been using battery 2 only with the smaller wire....It struggles to power a 75watt halagen light, the trolling motor I have is a 12/24 evinrude 50# thrust and useless with the small wire.
Im only interested in 12 volt, I night fish with underwater lights and 12volt trolling is all good for me as well.
If all else fails...I will run a wire myself, i just thought I could use all the wiring already there and never put the switch on run and be ok, on charge setting its in parallel anyway......I may be wrong......but i was thinking worst thing that would happen if someone did go to the run position it would pop all the inline fuses...Right???

You need to understand that fuses can only protect one wiring configuration. If you switch circuits by flipping the switch, the fuses may no longer be in the correct position for that configuration. Why not wire this thing the way it is supposed to be wired so you can use it as intended. It will be a negative if and when you sell the boat. Since someone mucked with the wiring on this boat already I will not even attempt to tell you how to make it work.

I never got a straight answer to the question......so lets try this.
All is wired good except wire size is small.
I want 12volt only and will NEVER put the switch on the run position.
If I hook all 4 wires to one battery......will it work?? Y or N
