Run Fuel out of Carb?

I have been an Evinrude guy for 40 years. Just recently wanted to upgrade to a 2-stroke short shaft manual start and Yamaha was the only manufacturer that met my requirements. So, I bought a 25 HP model.

I have always made it a practice to pull the fuel line and run the carb dry EVERY time I take the boat out of the water (it's a trailer boat). Never had a problem from doing that......the motor I just replaced on my little fishing boat was a 1973 Evinrude 18HP that had been run dry for lo all these years. It was the worn out lower unit that mandated the switch.

My question is.....is there any reasoon I shouldn't do that with the new Yami?

Generally, there is little or no risk in doing that with single carb engines.

With multi-carb engines there is risk that you will spin one or more cylinders with no lubrication. That could be very bad news.

I do it with all my 2-strokes and it helps to prevent many carb rebuilds .... however never tow your boat for long distances with the carbs drained, it can damage the needles .....
