Runnig hot

Hi, I have a 1996 V6 150HP 2.0L Merc.<br /><br />I just put in brand new t-stats, new temp gauge, new water pump and brand new prop. The engine runs cool at slow speeds (1000-1500rpms) but when I get it up on plane and start cruising (3500 rpms and up) it gets hot quick and the alarm sounds. As soon as I slow down it cools off. I'm thinking maybe poppet? valve. However I don't even know if this motor has one or exactly how it works. Any suggestions would be great...

I don't know where the poppet valve is located on your motor but that is a symptom of one gone bad.

Thanks, I found the poppet and pulled it off. It looked pretty coroded. After changing the poppet and putting on new hoses, I think that pretty much replaces everything in the cooling system.
