Running 2 stroke with too little oil?

So lets just say some dummy decided to do the following:

25hp Mercury 2 stroke
1 gallon of correctly mixed gas/2 stroke oil currently in tank.

Dumb dumb pulls up to get gas and puts in 3 more gallons forgetting to add 2 stroke oil. However he was dumb/smart enough to remember to add Marine Sta-bil since the gas has ethanol. Then the dummy goes and runs the boat for approximately 11 miles without any issues and realizes what he just did on his way home.

So how much damage do you think the dummy did running the motor on too little oil? Anything I should do before going out next time?

You can run a compression check to see if "the dummy" has worn down the rings or scored the cylinders. If the compression checks out ok then count yourself lucky and mix a fresh batch of 50:1 and run the engine as soon as possible. With a 150:1 ratio not enough oil is left on the engine internals when you shut it down. It needs some proper fuel/oil mix run through it soon to prevent corrosion.

Hope you luck out oh and next time don,t be a dummie keep extra oil on the boat for emergencies. I wouldn,t go running WOT too soon let the oil coat and cool the parts properly heat the engine to normal running and shut it down and let it cool several times it may help normalize the interior parts. I hope you didn,t over heat the bearings and crank too much.

Oil fouled plugs are cheaper than a rebuild. Check for signs of any overheating ..real hot pee stream..hot engine...Try to keep away from the ethanol if you can. And use premium grade oil meant for outboards....and JASCO rated.
